How does the commission process work?

Start by submitting a commission inquiry form on the Commission page. Describe your vision, budget, and deadline. Melissa will respond within 5 business days with questions, a sketch consultation, and a custom quote. Once you're happy with the design, a $100 sketch fee starts the process (applied to orders over $1,000).

How long does a commission take?

Typical turnaround is 8–16 weeks depending on complexity, current queue, and material sourcing. More complex pieces (full gowns, multi-piece costumes) may take longer. Rush orders may be available for an additional fee — please mention your deadline when you inquire.

What payment plans do you offer?

A minimum 10% deposit holds your spot on the waitlist. At least 25% of the total must be paid before work begins. The remaining balance is due before your piece ships. Custom payment schedules can be arranged — just ask.

What is the sketch fee?

The $100 sketch fee covers your design consultation and initial sketch mockup. It is non-refundable, but it is deducted from the final price on orders over $1,000. This ensures that only serious commissions move forward and respects Melissa's design time.

Can you make corsets in larger sizes?

Yes! Corset Carriage creates corsets up to a 45" waist measurement. All pieces are made to your custom measurements — there are no "standard sizes." Please provide your measurements accurately when filling out the commission form.

Do you offer refunds on custom orders?

No. Due to the completely custom, made-to-order nature of all commissioned work, refunds are not available. Please review your measurements, design details, and color/fabric choices carefully before approving the final design. Melissa will work with you to get everything right before cutting any fabric.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, Corset Carriage ships worldwide. International clients are responsible for all customs fees, import duties, and taxes upon delivery. These vary by country and are outside of Melissa's control. Please research your country's import policies for handmade garments.

How is shipping handled?

All pieces are shipped with care packaging, tracking, and insurance. Shipping cost is calculated based on weight, dimensions, and destination. Domestic US shipping is typically via USPS Priority Mail or UPS. International shipments are insured at full value.

Can I commission something that isn't on your site?

Absolutely. While the gallery shows Disney-inspired and fantasy pieces, Melissa works in all styles — historical, gothic, bridal, steampunk, cosplay, and more. If you can dream it, describe it in the commission form and she'll tell you if it's within scope.

What if my measurements change after I commission a piece?

Reach out as soon as possible. If work hasn't begun, measurements can usually be updated at no charge. If construction is underway, alterations may require additional fees depending on what has been completed. Communication is key — don't wait.

Do you do alterations or repairs on existing pieces?

Alterations and repairs on Corset Carriage originals are available on a case-by-case basis. Alterations to pieces from other makers are generally not accepted. Contact Melissa to discuss your specific situation.

How do I care for my corset or costume?

Each piece comes with specific care instructions. In general: spot-clean corsets rather than machine washing, air dry flat, store boned garments hanging or flat (not folded), and keep pieces away from direct sunlight and moisture. Melissa is happy to answer specific care questions.

How long does it take to get a response to my inquiry?
